Filling AA Alfa Proj pistol

Hello all. I just purchased an AA Alfa Proj PCP pistol. I tried to fill it for the first time and it leaked the entire time. I have thread seal tape between the fill adapter and the Foster fitting that goes to my tank hose so I know that's not the problem. I really think the issue is with the bleed valve on the adapter itself. Since I purchased the gun used, I cannot call up the distributor to inquire with them. I've tightened the valve down as much as I can but it still hisses air when I'm filling. This also means that I don't get a reading on my gauge to see how much air I have in it. Has anyone had this problem and if so, what did you do to resolve it?

Are you trying to fill it from completely empty mate?

No there is some air in it.

I know when it gets close to empty it will bleed off all the remaining air in the gun and when you fill from empty, the hammer needs to be engaged or it will not fill.
