s410 velocity & power
Hi everyone, I'm fairy new to this forum & have never posted here before, bought a new AA s410f classic in .22, this is my first PCP rifle my others are springers, can anyone tell me roughly what FPS I'm likely to get with it (just a rough guide) & FT/LBS, I know you have to chronograph it but I don't have one or know anybody with one. when I fire it, it seems pretty tame & quiet compared to my pro-sport .22 & my old B.S.A. Goldstar (both springers) I have shot a few pigeons with it and it seemed to hit them hard killing them instantly, would love to have an idea of FPS as I'm thinking of taking it rabbit shooting, is it up to shooting rabbits @ say 25/35yds? It is very accurate shooting targets @ those ranges, the pro-sport & Goldstar perform exceptionally well in the field, just hope this s410 can do likewise! any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Re: s410 velocity & power
Hi,
...and welcome to the forum. With an 16 grain Air Arms Diabolo Field pellet running at about 570 fps this equates to 11.5 ft.lbs of muzzle energy. Plenty good enough to take rabbits cleanly at the ranges you mention once you have learned the aim points at different ranges and can consistently hit a 1 pence piece at the same ranges. It's tame and quite as it's probably got an effective moderator on it. My shooting partner reckons my own .22 is pretty silent from about 20 yards away.

Re: s410 velocity & power
Hi Mark, thank you for your advice & info, yes it has got a moderator on it, will definitely try the AA diablo field, going to get some more range time in first though! I shoot targets quite regularly and hunt often (with springers) when time permits, just wasn't too sure about this rifle though! Thank you again, regards, Lyn.
Re: s410 velocity & power
I felt exactly the same with my first PCP (Raider 10 with QGS mod`) thought it felt tame as it fired, but listening to the pellets hit the targets, I knew it must be full power, the pellets hitting home made more noise than the gun did firing!

Re: s410 velocity & power
Hi, that's how I felt when I first bought the rifle! just seemed too quiet, I'm just about getting used to the lack of recoil on the PCP compared to spring rifles, its my first PCP so I will get used to it in time! Going to try AA diablo field pellets & possibly a few others. Going to put in some range time this weekend & experiment with it a bit, thanks for your comments & advice wastrel, regards, Lyn

Welcome to AAOC

Your S410 feels tame and quiet because it hasn't got a big spring and piston charging forward like your springers do. It's the piston movement that generates the recoil in a springer, not the pellet. A PCP in comparison has very few moving parts, usually just a small hammer and they generate very little or no recoil.
And your S410 should be at least the equal of your springers for accuracy, probably better as you get used to it. And, as you've a good foundation with shooting springers, you've got every chance of being very accurate and consistent with your S410. Practice, practice and practice some more

Re: s410 velocity & power
Hi ajs, thank you for your comments, I hope it will equal my other guns as I really like the look & the feel of the s410, its light compared to the spring guns, I have shot a couple of pigeons with it & it killed them instantly, like you said more practice is the order of the day, accuracy seems good, I have probably put only 120 pellets through it including zeroing, its probably just me being so used to springers that it feels tame! thanks again.
