Having had some enforced time to spare I have been looking at various sites. Can someone explain what the advantage of a sling shot hammer is? In my simple mind, it delays, albeit minutely, the actual firing. Looking forward to responses from the gurus.

Re: Sling shot
In theory the hammer cannot "bounce" against the firing valve and make it open again to release more air.
It's carried along until the carrier is brought to a stop. The small hammer then continues to strike the firing valve. Hopefully it will strike just once as there is no spring to cause a bounce. The small hammer operates by inertia.
There are mallets that work on a similar principal where the head of the mallet is filled with shot. This deadens any bounce.
Theoretically you should get better air usage and hence more shots.
