I love my Opinel No8 & out of boredom looked them up online tonight, reading reviews of the Opinel carbon steel knives, I see them called the best bang for buck knives out there! joint 2nd sharpest knife one guy ever tested- only bested by some megabuck stainles job needing hours of fettling-(& he tests knives for a living!)
ho hum you thinks!
thing is, these wee beauties cost buttons & are (literally) razor sharp.
I`ve had my No8 since about 1988, a wee rub of oil to stop any rust on the (not stainless) blade now & then, & being a joiner I`ve a host of sharpening tools including an old polishing stone at my disposal-there`s a big difference to a sharpening stone to a polishing one,
my Opinel given the treatment I have at my disposal, could see me the the worlds foremost Vasectomy surgeon-for flies!
if you really NEED to use a field knife, consider an Opinel, £10 for a No8 on Amazon, brilliant knives for not a lot of dosh (for well over a hundred years-that should tell you summit!)

I have always had them. They do rust quick, but they have a good sharp edge.

I've got 4 of varying sizes, we even use them as kitchen knives because they're so easy to keep sharp.
