Hi Guys,

Had a nice quick hunt last night. My best kill so far, (only been hunting a few weeks).

I dropped a rabbit with an excellent headshot at 35metres of a tripod, went down straight away and didn't even have any nerve impulses twitching after, so I'm assuming i hit the stem.

I had a good old look at the rabbit in the light to try and gauge exactly where i did hit it, but i couldn't see a single entry or exit wound anywhere ha. Could this just be because i use a .177? although i was still expecting to see some kind of entry/exit. Or did i completely miss the rabbit and kill it with concussion impact haha.

P.s. Whoever advised me last time to use a green filter......thank you very much for that. Used it from the get go last night, and just to see what it was like, i kept the torch on at times illuminating rabbits and they didn't spook at all, i even flashed the light on and off while pointing it at them and they didn't bat an eyelid!!

I know i will need to swap the filters around every now and again so they don't get spooked by the colour. And don't worry i won't be making a habit of messing around with the illumination, i just wanted to see what they were like with the filter on.

The entry wound closes up as the pellet passes. At 35 yards, a .177 has not a lot of energy left in it ... still enough to kill clean - even out to 40 or 45 yards but not enough to exit in a straight line. That + the chance that the pellet deflected internally on hitting the brain means it probably never came out. Hence the lack of any wounds.

I once shot a rabbit in the normal place between the eye and ear base and couldn't see a entry hole. I peeled the fur away and found the entry but not the exit. When i delved further i found it down its neck . That was a 35yrd kill using superdomes.

i find the green light the best , but dont get them lamp shy .

Don't ever take a shot and miss when clamping, they will definitely become lamp shy. Best stick to green if it works, otherwise they may start to associate lights with humans and their mummy leaving home.
