S410 gauge housing removal

Thu Nov 22, 2018 5:36 pm

I need to replace the exhaust valve as power well down, rifle is 7 yrs old.
I have drilled through the s/s plug to expose the hex machine screw.
I have tried to shift the screw to no avail, i have used quite enough pressure on the allen key but cant shift it & dont want to strip the hex slot.
Any advise readily accepted

Unless there is a leak from the exhaust valve it is unlikely to be the cause of loss of power. I'm sure you are aware as a member of this Forum the stock answer to loss of power is to clean the the striker rod and hammer, this was the case with my S410 which had become very stiff to cock and much reduced power.

To do this you don't have to empty the cylinder, also although it might be a bit cumbersome I don't think you need to remove the gauge assembly to unscrew the cylinder.

normal cause is the hammer rail is sticky a good clear and polish does it .
if the power is still low then its the pot you need to adjust .as for the studs
sometimes take bit of shifting good fitting keys are essencal .
are you on the rapid owners forum by any chamce ?

Im tryng to remove the pot & valve, i have to remove the gauge mount to get at the pot retaining screw. The Gauge mount screw is unbelievably tight & i dont want to strip the bolt hex.
to your last line , yes

Ok update

all sorted, i think the real issue here was lack of lube to the outer O ring on assembly, causing the O ring to stick ( under pressure of the fixing ) to the gauge mount & under side of the fixing screw head.

And now the fun begins :)
