My TX200 HC is getting a little too near the legal limit for my liking at 11.72ftlb.
OK, simple enough I though, just remove some pre-load. The trouble is, there are no pre-load washers. What would be the effect of reducing the length of the piston weight? I know that reducing the spring length is another option, but I'm not too confident at doing it.
On the subject of the piston weight. Why is it a separate piece? Why isn't the additional weight part of the piston?

Re: TX200 HC power reduction?
reduced power, less preload placed on spring and reduced piston weight. a drastic action to take. i am guessing that a replacement spring has been used, and not shortened. is it close to the limit, or even a little warm? or just want a reduction in power?
piston weight, can be tuned to different spring, transfer port dimensions etc. if part of piston, requires machining.

Hi Gary,
The spring is what came in the rifle from new (with polished ends), and as stated above, muzzle energy is 11.72ftlb with 8.4 grain AA pellets.

Re: TX200 HC power reduction?
as std, you could have anything up to five preload washers, may be yours is very efficient. if you are concerned, contact Air Arms, i don't think that they would send a rifle so close to the limit, but they can help.

Yes, I considered that, but I'm not confident that I wouldn't end up cocking it up. There seem to be several thoughts on how to do it.

heat it up, use the spring guide to keep it straight.

Re: TX200 HC power reduction?
It really is very straightforward but, if you are still concerned (and I understand that) try just leaving it cocked for a few days, just remember it is cocked when you come back to it!.
