What is the Original Oil Used on TX200 Walnut Stocks?

Hi,

I just received a new TX200 HC with a nice looking walnut stock. Does anyone know what oil Air Arms uses on their walnut stocks? I would like to protect and maintain the matte finish. I would prefer to protect the entire stock with a wax finish, such as Minwax Special Dark, but this leaves a more satin/glossy finish than I would like.

Zack, There was no oil on my TX. I use nothing but boiled linseed oil (BLO).
You can use London oil.
You can get walnut oil at your grocery.
Left over...put on your salad.
Mike McCuen, airgunstocks.com, uses nothing but BLO...

Thanks! I ended up ordering the RLO. We'll see how it does on the tiger striping. I'm hoping it enhances what little striping there is.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Still haven't got round to asking AA. I think a varnish (probably modern acrylic) is used rather than oil so was concerned about any penetrating oil getting under the varnish around the chequering. I've been using a clear natural wax furniture polish which does give it a slight sheen.

One of the options was tung oil, which leaves a matt finish - more so than BLO - but I've not used it on stocks. If you do, take care it is neat tung oil as some are mixed with a varnish (as in Danish Oil) and is likely to peel off as Tenmetrepeter found. You can look up the replies viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5305

Make sure you dont leave any discernible raw lindeel oil on the surface. Wipe it all off. It will take weeks to dry. it’s what putty is made from and that stays soft for months. Boiled linseed oil has dryers added to it.

I'm really happy with the RLO. I initially applied 3 very light coats, and saw little difference. Thanks to someone's advice, I found out that I went way too light. I next applied 2 heavier coats (with a small cloth totally wet as I rubbed it on, and then immediately wiped it off). This added some warmth to the stock, enhanced the tiger striping, and added just a hint of a satin surface - PERFECT!
