S410 clipping issues

Wed Aug 12, 2020 9:48 pm

Hello all,
I recently acquired a used S410 in .22 caliber. An elegant rifle but something was damaged in shipment and it is clipping badly. Without the shroud it will group nicely, but throws pellets far left with shroud and moderator attached. This one has a narrow shroud with a threaded moderator. The shroud appears straight and when I spin the shroud and moderator there are no obvious wobbles. The bushing at the muzzle end is present in the shroud. Any suggestions on how to remedy the clipping would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
John

Hello again,
I neglected to mention that my S410 is the XTRA FAC version. I'm thinking that removing the moderator from the shroud may be a possibility but I'm a bit hesitant as it appears there are baffles in the shroud as well as in the moderator so heating it might damage the baffles in the shroud. any advice on removing the moderator from the shroud would be welcome. The moderator seems bonded to the shroud since it will not move when the grub screw is loosened.

Have you got a heat gun, hair dryer type i.e. No flame, if you use that you should be ok, shroud is probably loctited to moderator, also is the mod a Q-tec, you say it shoots ok without shroud and mod, is that a 19.5" barrel, how much longer is the shroud compared to barrel?

Thanks for the response.
Barrel is around 19" (not sure how far it extends into the bolt carrier) and the shroud is around 25"
I will acquire a heat gun and see if I can remove the moderator. I'm not sure of the make of the moderator, it is 2-piece design with a tapered threaded piece that attaches to the shroud and a blued steel cylinder with white plastic baffles which threads on to the threaded piece attached to the shroud. There is also a black plastic baffle insert in the end that attaches to the shroud, I'm not sure if they are part of the moderator or attached to the shroud.

I haven't had any success as yet finding a parts diagram for that specific model, the S410 XTRA FAC
If you know of one a link would be most welcome!
thanks,
John

Hi John,
I cured clipping on 2 s510's. Perhaps the link below on how I did it will be of help. Particularly the refitting of the shroud and positioning of the figure of 8 barrel clamp. You can try this without removing the moderator.

You are probably better off looking at S510 xtra for schematics and part numbers
Don't think we done S410 xtra in U.K.
And if we did, it would be pretty hard to cock with a bolt, unlike your sidelever.. Rog
Actually, I have just remembered shooting the S410 xtra
It was a long time ago, had slipped my memory

My 410 XTRA FAC is a bolt-action. It is easier to cycle the bolt on the 410 than the bolt on a Daystate Huntsman Regal XL. My 410 has the narrow 15.5 mm OD shroud and the barrel ends 1 3/8" from the rear of the figure 8 barrel band. I would be willing to scrap the shroud and fit a screw-on moderator but would need an adapter to extend the barrel through the Band as well as being threaded to secure the moderator.

Hi John,
this is what I have. I'm sure it will provide what you need. A google should bring it up, or something similar.
