When I got the rifle, the first thing I did was to clean the barrel by firing a few cleaning pellets (3 at a time and the first cleaning pellet was sprayed with Ballistol).
A couple of weeks later, and after 1000 pellets, I started cleaning the rifle with a pull through, patches, Ballistol, nylon brush.
It’s only after noticing the brown stuff that I used brass brush. I actually only used it without a rod and it was just scrubbing the first 2 inches of the barrel.

How does it shoot? It shoots pretty well…But there is no way I’m keeping a new gun with a pitted barrel in my safe. It seems that some of you wouldn’t mind… I do… To each his own…
I have already sent back this rifle and should be getting a replacement in a few weeks.

think you have done the right thing. if you are not happy, and had done nothing, it would have been in the back of your mind. hope your replacement meets your expectations.
Gary.

They shipped me a new one. They were out of stock so It took a little longer.
The barrel on this new rifle looks similar to the previous one. It doesn't have that spot that looked like pitting on the previous one though. I guess this is how they're supposed to be.

Here's a pic. Before taking the picture I did some light cleaning (ballistol on cleaning pellets).

Send it back to AirArms as they buy the barrels in. Normally there is a coating which would have hidden any problems.
They will be more than happy you have flagged this up.
It's not really fair to comment further until AA has seen it.
Why don't folk take it up with the manufacturers before storing things up is beyond me.

I wasn’t blaming the manufacturer. I was actually thinking that since both barrels exhibit the same brown stuff on 2 brand new rifles (with a couple of month between each), that this is normal. But your post seems to indicate that inside of the barrel shouldn’t look like this. So now I’m concerned again. Ok, I’ll contact AA to see what they say.

I meant for you to contact AirArms to put your mind at rest. If something has gone wrong with anything they could put it right. I hope you get sorted soon.

I send a note to both AA and Air Venturi on Monday through their contact page and asked them about this brown deposit. I'm still waiting for a reply...
After sending the note, I noticed a similar deposit inside the cylinder (first pic). It was a sticky substance. I was able to remove it with a cloth and some Ballistol. It was pretty tough to clean though. I think I've figured this out. The brown deposit must be applied from factory. At this point I'm pretty confident that this is a non-issue; especially after shooting some groups at 15, 30 and 42Y with pellets it likes (JSB Heavy 10.34) in an indoor range. It was able to print one stellar 5 shot group of 0.362" at 42Y.
