s400 blueing removal

Would it be easy to strip the blue off my 400 barrel/cylinder to leave a polished finish? Any info on doing this would be much appreciated.

Caustic soda will strip it off. Then you can polish it up

Cheers bud. I thought of caustic soda as ive stripped mounts before but thought it might be a bit to harsh for blueing as ive heard people suggest things like vinegar. Would the barrel need some kind of treatment to stop rust etc?

plug the end with rubber stops and experiment the time needed to strip...you can always dip it longer if needed.

I would think a bare steel barrel will rust overnight particularly on fingerprints without permanent oil coat or reblueing or plating. Bottle blue solutions are not as deep as factory hot blue.

Other blueing removers include white vinegar, some phosphoric jelly rust treatments like Jenolite (unless EU immasculated it) and Birchwood Casey blue remover.
They probably wont strip anodised alloy black which needs the caustic soda.
