Even if you slipped it past the officials, you competitors on your peg would recognise it and cry foul !

Any scope with good side focus wheel if set up correctly will allow you to range find with sufficient precision for air gunning.

I cant help it ... I am biased towards the Hawke Sidewinder TAC30 in 10x42. Seems to do everything I need - Targets and hunting :) You will pick up a 2nd hand one in good nick for your budget.

Is the barrel clean? Could be lead crud that catches some pellets. Is the barrel securely tightened to the action? Is the visible o-ring - No.39 - in the brass end cap (that you can see when you unscrew the air cylinder - mates with the action) in good shape? Is the air cylinder tight in the action?...
