I must be lucky, as my walnut stock and cheek piece seem to match ok.
In the new adverts for AA rifles, the TDR is now shown with a black cheek piece, presumably synthetic?

I`d be amazed if applying anything over a factory finish made the slightest bit of difference, but hey PJ, if you see a difference -more power to you, I think you`d have to strip the original finish back to bare wood (which I would NOT recommend) before any kind of oil would make, well, any kind of...
