The flaw in your idea is you are forgetting that Olympic as well as National and local target shooters all used to use recoiless springers. Plenty of places that sell the adaptors that will let you fit standard unf stuff- Ramsbottoms, Rowan engineering, fleabay etc

Mainly HFT so a 6x42 on medium mounts, single zero at 27 yards so if it isn't on the cross hair it's always holdover, none of this near and far zero, holdover/hold under kerfuffle. Works well for me in the field as well. I shouldn't do as it's everyone to his own but I get really racked off watching...

Neither will do what you want as they are, they're really for just up and down movement and hardly thicker than the standard butt pad. Mine is 44 grammes, according to Robert Lane they average out at 44.52.

Thanks for that, I'll just have to bear the differences in mind if I do need another one, they obviously won't interchange without a fair bit of alteration.
