Re: Air speed behind the pellet

Well after giving this some thought as I poo picked the horse field. One point I had missed out was the compressed column of air in front of the pellet. As the pellet travels up the bore under a massive acceleration this column of air has to become slightly compressed and warmed slightly. My thought...

Air speed behind the pellet

Just out of interest does any one know if the air columb behind a pellet goes above the speed of sound as the pellet exits the bore? Im trying to see a good reason to machine an air stripper and the only one I can see is the air exceeding the pelet speed as the pellet exits the bore. Its seems obvio...

Re: S410 100yards

I must admit I was a bit suprised by what the 410 will do at 100 yards. On a still day the rifle will print 2 inch groups with the odd flyer all day long, add a little wind and it all goes tits up with groups opening up to the width of the target. I did make one large step forward going over to the ...

free floating the air cylinder.

I read an interesting article on one of the bench rest forums about free floating the air cylinder on the 400 series rifles. Its an easy job using 15 thou shims in front of the stock screw and behind the screw. Had a try at it yesterday and was more than happy with the results. The point of impact s...

Re: S410 tuning and mods

Do it your self, there is more than enough information on here and YouTube. At the least a clean up on the trigger group and a hone around the moving parts will work wonders. The 400 series rifles are a delight to strip down and hard to bugger up buy all new O rings and seals before you start the jo...

Re: New scope required

I have to agree that even lower price scopes are good at what they do. I think the top end scopes win out on optical clarity and ease of use. The turrets on the sightron are much smoother to use than my mtc's and are far more repeatable. If I go from 30 yards to 50 yards and then return to 30 the ze...

Re: New scope required

I had to say I like the MTC's very good value for money but having just gone to a Sightron SIII 8-32 i'm totally sold on the worth of the pricier scopes.
I'd certainly say try to put a bit more into the scope you buy , I worried about the cost for weeks but I'm soundly glad I spent it.
