Ta Alan, it's a Lane reg but you've given me a target. As regards the tube, checking the markings it seems it should be seamless as it's got a "DOM" mark which denotes Drawn Over Mandrel so it seems the groove is a broached line. I know they put a groove in the end fittings as a burst safe...

Bolt should be cocked and open if you're filling from empty not closed. The bolt pressure overrides the firing valve spring so air goes straight out of the barrel if you don't cock it first.

First off you're not going by the gun gauge are you? if you are testing it's always better to leave the gun connected to the bottle so you're using it's more accurate gauge. How do you know the sweet spot starts at 150 (by the gun gauge) if you've dry fired it down to that? most find it's more like ...
