I gave him the gun a few years ago. anyway I forgot how nice the gun is. great stock. the best bolt cocking system on any rifle ive ever tested. and in .177 will take the scrotum off a mozi at 30 yards. still has the old ...

Re: Air Arms Smooth Twist.
I thought the smooth twist barrel was a Ben Taylor patent ... so I was led to believe in a Terry Doe publication that I found in a public toilet once .... among other magazines. I soon lost interest so I read Shaven Ravers instead Thought this thread was about Smooth Twist not Smooth Twit

Re: S400 advice needed
Hi, Did you change the valve itself (about £8 IIRC from Julian Bond on this site)? I had a very arched curve on my .22 S410 and fitting a new valve really flattened it out. I posted detailed notes together with lovely graphs (mmmmm!!) on the older version of this site under 'sweet spot' hopefully on...

Re: Ultimate Sporter
Hi, 11.9ft.lbs with AADFs would probably mean that a heavyweight pellet like Bisley Magnums would have been over the limit. They are about half a ft.lb higher in my S410 in .22. I believe that your US set to about the right figure now. It should improve slightly with time/shots and you will also fin...

Re: How many fills.
Hi, Depends on what pressure you fill it to and refill it at. If you fill to 160 bar and refill at 100 Bar then Chairgun says 73. If you fill to the maximum pressure of 190 Bar (and waste loads of air getting to the more useful shots which start around 160 bar anyway) then the count drops to 38. If ...

Hi,
.... and welcome. You would need to tell us the calibre and what pellet it is in order to be able to answer that one. Heavy pellets are slower than light ones .. sometimes by quite a margin.

Hi,
A bit of a transformation in the consistency of the shotstring. Here it is using the same scale etc as your previous shotstring results:-

Hi
Here's what it looks like on my spreadsheet. Orange lines are 20fps apart. I reckon filling to 160 Bar should yield another 3 or 4 shots within that 20 fps band.

Re: s400 consistency
Hi, The attached .jpg image shows the curve of my old S400 Classic in .177 calibre. It is standard apart from the hammer rail polish and new internals (valve/ springs etc). The two orange lines show the sweet spot (12 fps or 1.5% spread) and 64 shots are within that band when filled to 147 Bar. I on...

Re: point of impact drops in 15 to 20 shots
Hi, My old S400 Classic .177 would give 60+ shots within a spread of +/- 6fps at its sweet spot. At 50 yards this equates to +/- 0.13" and at 25 yards this equates to +/- 0.03" or in metric terms about 1.5mm total difference (commonly called bugger all!). At 25 yards you should be able to ...
