Electrolysis Works!

So today I tested the electrolysis again, now with an old battery charger.

It seems to work! after 4 hours the part I testted seems almost rust free. I'm letting it in the electrolysis bath till tomorrow morning to see.

Re: Heavy rust on old airgun

right, well, here we go then, problem with staining Pedro (as if you didn`t have enough to deal with!) is the forward stain looks brown (ish) in the pictures, but those further back look blue to grey, this is a major PITA coz you`d be trying to match 3 different colours (3rd being the actual stock ...

Re: Heavy rust on old airgun

Blue stains are usually due to rusty steel and high tannin wood, oak being the worst but beech also. They should come out or be reduced with Oxalic Acid solution . Its a poison so take care. Well, I need to find something to cover it then. I'm not going to work with that . I'm thinking something pi...

Re: Heavy rust on old airgun

Pc power would be ok,just make sure the plus side is on the lump of metal you want to rust and the negative on your gun parts. A sponge backed sander will help to get the bulk off.The detailed bits will need hand rubbing. BBF Tks, I think a friend of mine will lend me an old battery charger, I will...

Re: Heavy rust on old airgun

ok ok ... I got the message. :) Not worth the € and time.

Im going just to try to take the rust out, I saw the youtube guy using a batery charger to do some magic, maybe i'll try that. Maybe fun to try e no € to spend.
If I get any decent result maybe I'll budget the parts I need.

As I said, nothing done yet besides disassembly and a light scrub to find out what is the make and model.
It cocks and fires, well, when it was assembled in the beginning :)

Re: Heavy rust on old airgun

But before I started the project I made sure the lockup was good the barrel was straight and the bore was in good condition. If you have any issues with any or all of the above , the outcome of your project may turn into a disappointment. Humm, how can I do that? What is a lockup? Its the part/syst...
