Wont hurt to flatten it. Not sure if it being bent affects the sealing or not. Once you have got it all back together, would be worth checking if you get any air leakage from this area. It will be a puff when you fire.
From personal experience,it is a pig of a disease. If you say they only gave her months, then it is advanced Stage 4. Will pray for a quick and relatively painless deliverance. Chin up, mate. Not easy but we need to be strong.
