Like you, I am not sure about some of the extreme shot counts you hear about, but personally I'm happy with 100.

Low strength Loctite did the job for me, but it was never a very good fit anyway so I got rid of it and bought a superb matching laminate one from Tommy Bennett of Tilly Gunstocks. Have a look at his page on Facebook if you are interested.
